Azoth the Sword-Whip
Azoth initially appears as an old but well-crafted shortsword with a well-worn leather grip. However, with a technical flick of the wielder’s wrist the blade becomes segmented, doubling in length in a whip-like fashion. A similar flick retracts the segments to their bladed form. While extended, the bladed “tail” flows more smoothly than an ordinary whip, as if following the thoughts of the wielder with great precision. The wielder feels a significant increase in suspicion towards those around her. In either form, Azoth is a +1 Finesse weapon that deals 1d6 +1 damage, and is considered a Reach weapon while extended; only Mira may attune to Azoth while she lives.
Hematology (Level 3): If Azoth is steeped in the blood of a recently killed creature, it absorbs some of the blood and grants its wielder knowledge about the slain foe. Steeping currently takes at least one round (six seconds) and gives species-level information, cause of death, name, and general demeanor while living. In addition, Azoth’s wielder sees with perfect clarity and scores a critical hit on natural 19-20 rolls. As a bonus action, the wielder may choose to transfer her/his sight to Azoth; this sight is limited to a 20 foot radius but operates as true sight.
