Alda the Staff
Alda appears to be made from the gnarled branch of an ancient tree. Its wood is twisted and warped, and the years have petrified the material, giving it a grey- brown color and making it as hard as iron. There are three rings pierced through a hole near the top, all gold and all wedged tightly. The wielder feels a significant increase in stubbornness and resolve while attuned to the staff. Alda is a +1 quarterstaff and can only be attuned to Gorthaur while he lives.
Indenture (Level 3): There is now a very thin vein of blue light twisting down Alda’s length and a metal coupler around its middle. If Alda is used as a melee weapon or to channel a cantrip, Level 1, or Level 2 spell to deliver a killing blow, the wielder may choose to enthrall the newly-dead creature as a temporary servant by creating a wraith-like duplicate. When this power is used, one of the rings disappears from Alda and appears on the finger (or best substitute) of the wraith. Until the wraith is destroyed or until a fourth is created, the wielder can use a bonus action each turn to control it (and any other active servants). Wraiths use the same stats as their living counterparts but have 1⁄2 HP and AC. There is no upper CR bound for this effect. Alda can also be used to cast shocking grasp as a bonus action.
